The religious potential of children between 3 and 6 years old

It was at her home in Via degli Orsini, where she initiated a catechesis inspired by the educational principles of Maria Montessori, that Sofia Cavalletti discovered the extent to which very young children, regardless of their cultural background, possess an innate and spontaneous knowledge of the mystery of God.

She will therefore develop a method, whose central point is the parable of the Good Shepherd, which allows the youngest to discover biblical texts linked to the liturgy. The result is surprising: the children grasp with great simplicity and joy the most profound truths of the faith.

The fruit of over thirty years of experience with 3- to 6-year-olds, this work bears witness to the religious and spiritual potential of children, and will help catechists, parents and priests in the difficult task of educating them in the faith.

Sofia Cavalletti is the founder, along with Gianna Gobbi, of the Good Shepherd Catechesis, a worldwide catechetical method based on the pedagogical principles of Maria Montessori, for whom Gianna Gobbi was an assistant. She allowed the spiritual sphere to be extended the insights so accurate of Maria Montessori, creating a pedagogy that allows each child to grow at their own pace.
