The Good Shepherd and the Child. A Path of Joy was written in the early 1990s by Italian theologian and catechist Sofia Cavalletti and her closest collaborators at the request of Monsignor Marcel Gervais, then Archbishop of Ottawa, Canada. He had been deeply moved by reading The Religious Potential of the Child from 3 to 6 Years Old, in which Sofia describes her astonishing discoveries about the religious predispositions of young children. This book is therefore a concrete and practical companion to The Religious Potential of the Child for all those who accompany the spiritual growth of children.

Expanded and revised in 2013, this second edition describes in a practical way the challenges of religious education for young children but above all offers a true path of joy for every parent and educator from before birth to the age of six. How do we talk to them about God? Should we talk to them about God? What texts and images from the Bible will touch their hearts? How should we present them to them? Are young children capable of understanding and appreciating the meaning of the Eucharist and baptism? What form of prayer do they teach us?

In doing so, adults discover with wonder that the young child gently leads them to the essential and the deepest mystery of our Faith.

This book is also a reference work for all French-speaking training courses in the Good Shepherd catechesis.
Valérie Valentin, President of the association of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd France
